In a surprise move, Jon Heyman announced that the Twins had hired Baseball America editor in chief John Manuel as part of the scouting department with the Twins. Manuel started at the bottom of Baseball America and worked his way to Editor and Chief. He cited familiarity with Twins Chief Baseball of Operations Derek Falvey. He built Baseball America into what it is today.
What will Manuel add to the Twins reshaped front office. That is still to be determined, but Manuel is a big name in scouting, and I am sure he will help. Falvey gave the current front office a year to prove themselves. They are trying to beef up the scouting department, and Manual will bring his 25 years of scouting to help young people become better scouts and help identify the guys the Twins should be chasing. It is yet to be determined his exact role, but there is little doubt he will be an asset in the Twins organization.
